Not even in the Top 10. Then, just two days later, sitting at No. 4 — one position ahead of Grammy-winning superstar Tyla.
South African pop artist Charlie Void has enjoyed an unexpected chart breakthrough after public voting propelled his single “Velvet Runway” from a Chart Chaser honorary mention into fourth place on KC107.7 FM's MzanziHits Top 10.
The result placed Void just ahead of Tyla at No. 5 on the station's countdown — an amusing turn of events for an independent artist who wasn't initially included in the official Top 10.
Void, however, is keeping his feet firmly on the ground, even if his sense of humour has other plans.
“Before anyone calls the Grammys, it's one radio chart, not a hostile takeover of the music industry,” Void jokes. “But going from not even being on the countdown to sitting one place ahead of Tyla? I think I'm allowed to enjoy that for a minute. I seem to have a habit of finding myself in some rather famous company on these lists. Perhaps nobody's throne is entirely safe after all!”
The milestone adds to the momentum of “Velvet Runway,” released on 18 September 2026 and previously featured on Apple Music's New Music Daily editorial playlist.
